Hon Tope Agidi debunks malicious propaganda against Governor Biodun Oyebanji's program
The attention of well-meaning Ekiti people has been drawn to the misleading and reckless post by Mr. Opeyemi Falegan, alleging that His Excellency, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, is “stealing” funds budgeted for the elderly.
This statement is not only false, but a deliberate attempt to misinform the public and belittle the social investment efforts of government.
For the avoidance of doubt, the Owo Arugbo programme is alive and active. Thousands of elderly citizens across the 16 Local Government Areas and 22 LCDAs of Ekiti State are beneficiaries, receiving stipends regularly as part of the social welfare scheme. Records are available, names are documented, and testimonies abound in communities where these interventions are felt.
It is therefore mischievous and self-serving for anyone to arrogate to himself the sole caretaker of widows and the elderly in Ekiti State. Charity at the individual level is commendable, but it does not replace government’s responsibility to design sustainable and inclusive programmes for all.
We must also sound a clear note of warning: those who are purveyors of falsehood and sponsors of deliberate misinformation should desist immediately. Ekiti belongs to all of us, and dragging governance into the mud of propaganda serves no good purpose.
Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the welfare of every Ekiti person. No amount of propaganda or cheap blackmail will distract him from delivering on his mandate. Ekiti people know the truth, and the truth will always outlive falsehood.
